A R Rahman wins two Grammy Awards.

A R Rahman has bagged two awards at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards ceremony at Los Angeles on Sunday. This is the first time Rahman has been nominated for a Grammy and he won it on the first time itself.

A R Rahman received awards in the category for best film song and best soundtrack, both for the Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire.

A R Rahman shares the Grammy with lyricist Gulzar who penned “Jai ho”. “Jai ho” has been sung by Sukhwinder Singh, Tanvi Shah, Mahalaxmi Iyer, Vijay Prakash and Rahman himself.

In the best compilation soundtrack for a motion picture category A R Rahman’s competitors were Steve Jordan for "Cadillac Records," Quentin Tarantino for "Inglourious Basterds", the producers of "Twilight" and "True Blood" to bag the award.

In the best song category A R Rahman's beat Bruce Springsteen for his song "The Wrestler," from the Oscar-nominated movie of the same name.

An elated A R Rahman said “This is insane, God is great again,” while accepting the award.

With this latest honour the Mozart of Madras joins other Indian music greats like Pandit Ravi Shankar, Zakir Hussain, Vikku Vinayak and Vishwa Mohan Bhatt who have won a Grammy in the past.

A R Rahman won two Oscars, a BAFTA and a Golden Globe last year for his soundtrack for the multi award-winning Slumdog Millionaire.

Last month, A R Rahman was short listed for an Oscar nomination for his Tamil song “NaNa” from the Hollywood film, ‘Couples Retreat’. The song is competing with 62 others for the nominations which will be announced tomorrow on February 2.
